HAPPY 41 YEARS, Zeus..........Love, Hera

Once a upon a time a young girl barely out of her teens traveled to Boston for some R & R with her step sister. Her step-sister didn't have room for her in her dorm so she suggested that the girl stay in the apartment of the step-sister's boyfriend.
The boyfriend had roommates.
It was in the early morning, January 1968 and when the girl turned from the window to answer a greeting from a strange boy that she took one look at him and FELL IN LOVE.

You know those stories you read about LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT? The ones where the heroine tells the reader that she found it hard to breathe? That she felt like she was floating? The ones where she says that she KNEW the moment that she saw him that she was going to be spending the rest of her life with him?

She certainly didn't expect it to happen. She didn't even really know about any of the room mates. But, after her trip to Boston, she told her best girlfriend, Janie, "I met the man I'm going to marry."

The poor sod didn't even know what hit him.

The romance between Boston and Moorestown took flight.

February 14, 1968, young Zeus drove to Moorestown, in the dead of the night, to leave a dozen carnation on the young Hera's doorstep.

March, 1968 he flew her up to Boston.

Easter, in April, young Hera took the bus down to Baltimore to meet his family.

May, he came to Moorestown to meet her parents.

June, she moved to Boston to keep close tabs on him while he finished college. Young Hera trusting NOTHING to chance, took a job at the same college. Today, this might be called stalking?

Time moved on, Hera worked at the School of Nursing, pretending to be a secretary to Miss McQueeney. Miss McQueeney didn't really care that Hera didn't really know how to write a letter, she made delicious cakes and brought them to the break room, for Miss McQ to eat.

Somewhere in during the year young Hera confronted young Zeus and asked him POINT BLANK, "WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR AFTER GRADUATION"?

What Hera wants, Hera gets.

Young Zeus, confused as usual and in Love & Lust answered correctly.

Young Hera planned the wedding for the day after graduation, JUNE 3, 1969.
Practical as ever, since the entire family would be there for Zeus's graduation on June 2nd, it made sense to book the chapel at Boston College and tie the knot, TIGHT, the next day.

And, they did.

And, they have lived together for 41 years, through numerous dogs, three children, two houses, many arguments, tears, lots of laughter, COMPROMISE, more laughter and the birth of five grandchildren.

Happy Anniversary, Zeus!

  5. Have we ever compared notes? Your history is similar to mine, although we have about 6 years more under our belts than you. But more interesting is that we have lived a "stone's throw" from Moorestown for over 30 years, and our youngest is in college in the Boston area. What are the chances?! LOL
