ART DOLL PROJECT

If you read my blog a day or two ago you saw that I wanted to do an NATIVE AMERICAN FULL MOON ART DOLL challenge. Say what?
Here is the list of the months and the names of the full moon given by some, Native American tribes.

JAN. - FULL WOLF MOON, also known as OLD MOON or MOON AFTER YULE

FEB. - FULL SNOW MOON, also known as FULL HUNGER MOON

MAR. - FULL WORM MOON, also known as FULL CROW MOON or FULL CRUST MOON or FULL SAP MOON

APR.- FULL PINK MOON, also known as FULL SPROUTING GRASS MOON, or EGG MOON, or FULL FISH MOON

MAY - FULL FLOWER MOON, also known as FULL CORN PLANTING MOON or MILK MOON

JUNE- FULL STRAWBERRY MOON

JULY - FULL BUCK MOON, also known as FULL THUNDER MOON or FULL HAY MOON

AUG.- FULL STURGEON MOON, also known as FULL RED MOON or GREEN CORN MOON or GRAIN MOON

SEPT.- FULL HARVEST MOON, also known as FULL CORN MOON or FULL CRUST MOON, or FULL SAP MOON

OCT.- FULL HUNTER'S MOON

NOV.- FULL BEAVER MOON, also known as FROSTY MOON

DEC. - FULL COLD MOON, also known as FULL LONG NIGHTS MOON

At the beginning of the month of January I will remind you that the art doll project for the month is: FULL WOLF MOON or OLD MOON or MOON AFTER YULE.
If you are playing make a copy of this list and especially the January name. I'm going to be out of town until January 2nd.

Next, I don't want people to FREEZE UP about this. It's supposed to be fun. So, if you want to make an actual Art Doll, great. If you want to make one ART DOLL with a change of clothing for each month, that's fine too.
If even picking up a needle and thread scares you then create your ART DOLL out of something that you feel comfortable working with. Maybe clay, or twigs, or metal, buttons, I don't care.
Have fun just try to keep to the title of the full moon for that month.

Maybe you want to paint your ART DOLL on canvas or watercolor paper, go for it.

Remember ART DOLLS come in all sizes, shapes, materials, etc.

When you finish yours, for the month, email me and let me know and give me the link to your blog, or where ever you have posted a picture of your ART DOLL. I'll post the links in my blog and people can go see what you have created.

REMEMBER YOU GET TO KEEP YOUR ART DOLL.
This is not a trade or swap.
Last time I did this I swapped out all my dolls and received absolutely gorgeous ones in exchange but my family was a little ticked off with me. Apparently, they wanted the dolls to stay put.

You can't do this wrong. Seriously, unless you put a kitten's face on the FULL WOLF MOON art doll, then I might make my curious face, at the computer, also known as my WT.....well you get the idea.

Although, Louie is sitting here next to me, at the computer and as far as he is concerned all art dolls should have his face on them.

Question? Email me at: Doginthehole@aol.com

:)Bea Create, it's good for your soul

P.S. I decided to do a landscape quilt block with my Full Moon figure on the block. When I get done I'll have 12 blocks to make a nice quilt. I'm also going to make the art doll for each month. :)

  4. Yvonne, that picture is actually the first stage of some dolls I made following a pattern in one of the Somerset magazines. I backed it and stuffed it. And, even with all the embroidery what I wish I had done was PAINT it first. So, I think the next time I do them that's what I will do.
My quilt blocks will be fused landscape blocks representing the season of the full moon with a figure fused on it.
I really wanted to get back to doing some landscape scenes again and this seemed like a good way to combine those interests. :)Bea

  8. Thanks for telling me about this, Ooglebloops! I hope I can find the time since I have been wanting to do Native American art dolls for awhile (especially because of some Native American heritage). Now I have real motivation, and I'm eager to see what others end up doing. I'm now a 'Follower' and will be watching for more news about this on your blog. In the meantime, I'm printing out this post with a smile.
