Shhhhhhhh, do you see what I see?

I wish you could have been at our house this morning. Murphy and I went out the back door for his morning ablutions and while I was chanting the morning litany, "go potty, go potty, go potty", I glanced out at the pond and saw a Blue Heron just standing on the grass path by the pond.
I whispered, "Murphy, good boy, all done, let's go" and backed my way up on to the patio and in the back door. Murphy was intrigued by my strange walking. Once we were both inside I grabbed my camera and snuck outside again.
Of course, he took off but he decided to make a U-turn and go back to the pond. I stood frozen to the spot not daring to move. Once he was in the pond I tiptoed (remember that Walt Disney movie, Fantasia?) instead of a tutu picture a bright red shirt.
I tiptoed as close as I could get to the pond. He was watching me.
I raised one foot, balanced on the other and with Zen like grace, placed the foot that was in the air, on the ground.
Then I repeated this maneuver until I was close enough to really get what I thought was a decent picture.
With each movement he twitched his head and watched me.
I got the picture.
He flew up and out of the pond probably most disgusted with me for interrupting his frog eating breakfast.
I gleefully trotted back to the house.
I have SOOOOOOOOOOO wanted to get a picture of him.
Remember, I am very easily entertained.

  2. I think, for me, that's my one and only shot of a Blue Heron in the pond, so I'm very very happy. I can add him to my other wildlife photos of Life in the Country. :)

  6. I do excited about stuff. I find life very entertaining and humans equally so. They always surprise me. Life likes to throw unusual things my way to see if I've learned those lessons. You know those ones that involve that 2x4!
Anytime nature lets me get close to it, from a butterfly to bumblebee to a Blue Heron I get giddy. :)Bea

  11. Great shot! of the Blue heron. I love these birds. A pair roosts in the trees in my backyard - they come in low in the late afternoon. Shy things.

  12. Oh, how lucky you are Elizabeth. We have a number of Cranes in the neighborhood and I hear them leaving the woods in the early morning, so I wonder if they nest in those trees.
I just don't often see a Bue Heron.
He seems to like our pond. I hope he comes back again next year. :)Bea

Well Bea, I'm sure you called and called to him, but I guess your bird was ........ a little hard of heron.

He can go on, and on, and on with these. Welcome to my world.

  15. Oh that is one BAD joke! What a fabulously exciting photo. I love it when something unusual appears in the garden, even a butterfly or odd bee. A blue heron? How wonderful.
