Quilted Postcard Swap

I'm in a Yahoo group, Mmartfriends - Mixed Media Art Friends and we're having an August, quilted postcard swap. It's so easy, you put in your name and people sign up to send you a postcard. You decide how many people you want to send to and off you go.
This morning I took the crumbled dry white muslin that I had wet and let dry overnight and ran my Shiva sticks over the muslin. Then I cut the pieces into over sized 4x6 shapes, cut some batting for under the muslin and put some machine embroidery stitches on the muslin.
Then I scolded Murphy for chewing through my ironing cord. I don't know when he did it but he was sitting there staring at it and I thought it was a good time to scold him. He didn't have a clue what I was talking about.
Another iron down to the workshop for repair. sigh I'm glad irons are cheap because I seem to go through them a lot.
I trimmed off all the loose threads and then cut a piece of heavy weight .......
now my brain wants to say Timtex but I know that isn't right. It's the stuff that you would use to make the "bill" part of the baseball hat. People use it for fabric bowls, too.
I zigzagged around the edge, then trimmed all the excess batting and fabric away and zigzagged around the edge again.
I didn't put another backing on. Yeah, I know the writing is fuzzy on the "timtex" but you can still read it and I wasn't interested in overkill.
It's a postcard. It's fun. It's not a quilt.
If you click on the picture you can see more detail. I did some stitching to make it look like mountains in the background. PRETEND, OK?
Now, Murphy and I are off to do errands. I got 1/3 of the yard cut, I'll do the rest when I get home.
Belinda and Christy these postcards are going out in the mail today to you.
Oh, I slept in the new orange sherbet colored room last night. With the tile floor and nothing on the walls there is an echo. Murphy snores.
That room has two more windows than my bedroom has and it's closer to the woods and there were woods night sounds.
There are chimes outside those windows.
Needless to say I didn't get a lot of sleep.
I'm picking up some earplugs today when I do my errands.

Have a great day, doing something nice for someone else.........that's good for your soul, too.

  1. What a lovely postcard but I can't see any writing and I don't know where you put the timtex or whatever (I know what you mean). I love the maching stitching and your mountains.

Bad dog Murphy. He might have blown himself up!! I hope you get some good postcards back.

  2. Thanks! I think Murphy must have done the chewing when he was younger which tells me more about how long it's been since I've been in the Fiber studio. sigh........

  3. Oh right!! Thanks for the separate infor on your card. I think they should be posted like proper postcards too!

It's the energy from the tangerine keeping you up, Bea.
