The Lad's not growing right.........

Those aren't the words you really want to hear from your vet. Murphy has had an injured left paw/elbow for almost three weeks now. We've tried a number of remedies but they only seem to be a band aide approach to the problem. Yesterday, I took him in, once again, to the vet. This time he had x-rays taken and what the vet saw wasn't very good news.
It seems his front leg bones are twisted and putting pressure on the "elbow" joint. That's what I've been calling his shoulder joint, now I know better.
It's inflamed and the muscles are stressed and there has been bone growth that isn't supposed to be there but has been growing to "help" stabilize the problem.
So, it seems our next step is to take the x-rays to the University of Wisconsin Veterinary School and have a talk with the surgeons there about what to do.
My baby is only 11 months old and if we don't correct this problem he will be in for a painful life. It will be about two weeks before we can even get an appointment to see someone. I'll keep you posted on what's happening.

Awww, I'm sorry, Bea. I hope they find out what's wrong with the little guy. And that it's easily fixed.

  2. I suspect it's going to involve reshaping the major leg bones. They seem to have come in twisted.
That cute little turn up of his left foot isn't so cute when you realize it's due to a twisted bone.
It just breaks my heart to watch him hobble around on three legs and it turns out the other front leg is in just as bad shape.
I think this is going to be a long fall.

  4. Poor baby. He's such a little trooper. I'll send him positive puppy ciber vibes in hopes that all will be well in due time.
