Tough times but here's an idea!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to go to workshops, especially two or three day ones where I get to spend all day creating art, work as long as I want into the evening, in the workshop, with other creative folks, share meals and talk with my new friends. I've been looking at some of my favorite places to go, for a retreat and as much as I would love to go, the prices are just a bit much. I understand that everybody has to make a living but right now I can't justify spending a couple of hundred or more dollars on a workshop and that's not even including room, board and transportation.
So, I'm taking another approach to learning.
There's a link to an alternative way to learn new techniques. Order a video. For under $40.00, in a lot of cases, I can order a video, watch it over and over while I learn a technique and then watch it again when I've managed to do the technique wrong and have to see what happened.
I have one on collage for all levels that I bought a couple of years ago. It's done by Claudine Hellmuth and it's fun to watch. So go over and take a look. You might recognize a favorite instructor or technique or maybe even see something that you have always wanted to try.
The other thing I would suggest is typing in your interests at Yahoo Groups and see what kinds of groups pop up. I learned a LOT from the wonderful Yahoo groups that I belonged to for four years. The artists in the groups were wonderful about sharing information, examples of their work and often having swaps for sharing artwork.
You could even google for Internet classes in whatever you are interested in. It's just amazing what is out there.
Picture for today is a painted background page for my art journal. I have twenty-five painted pages. I figure that's enough to get me through my trip next week.

I'm shaking my head. I would rather spend the $$$$ than watch a video on the computer. The experience is so much richer.
